Forest River, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2017 Salem and Wildwood recreational trailers. The affected units are model SMT186RB manufactured between October 13, 2016, and October 21, 2016, and model WDT186RB manufactured between October 7, 2016, and October 21, 2016. A total of 92 vehicles are affected by this recall.
The Federal Placard Label and the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on these trailers incorrectly state that the vehicle has two axles, while the vehicles are actually equipped with only one axle. Consequently, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."
If an owner follows the incorrect information on the Federal Placard Label, they may overload the vehicle, which increases the risk of a crash. Forest River will notify owners and provide a corrected Certificate of Origin, Federal Placard, and VIN plate for each trailer free of charge. The recall began on November 22, 2016.
