Tremcar is recalling rear impact guards used on certain 2008 Tremcar 1350 cubic ft B-train pup, 2008-2017 Tremcar 2800 cubic ft Dry Bulk Quad, 2014 Tremcar 1625 cubic ft Vac tandem, and 2016 Tremcar 2300 cubic ft Quad trailers. The recall addresses a defect where the guards did not adequately resist sufficient force when impacted at the outer portions, causing the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 223, "Rear Impact Guards."
The defect may increase the risk of injury to a car driver by failing to adequately reduce the possibility of a car traveling under the trailer in the event of a crash. The recall began on July 20, 2017.
The purchaser of the affected guards is aware of the recall, so owner notification letters will not be sent. The remedy for this recall is still under development. Owners may contact Tremcar customer service at 1-800-363-2158 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
