Plain-English summary
Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC is recalling 12,743 2017 model year vehicles, including C300, C43 AMG, C63 AMG, GLC300, S550, S600, and Mercedes-Maybach S550 and S600 models. The recall addresses a defect in the front seat seatbelt pretensioners, which may not function properly in the event of a crash. This failure means the vehicles do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards 208 and 209 regarding occupant crash protection and seat belt assemblies.
If the pretensioners do not function as intended, seat occupants may not be adequately restrained during a collision, which increases the risk of injury. The recall began on October 13, 2017.
Mercedes-Benz will notify owners, and authorized dealers will replace the front seat belts free of charge. Owners can contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 for more information.
