East Recalls 2016 Dump Trailers with Incorrect Weight Certification Labels

East Manufacturing is recalling 2016 Hybrid and Steel Dump trailers with overstated weight ratings that could lead to overloading and crashes.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where the defect (overstated weight ratings) increases the risk of a crash, but no injuries or fatalities have been reported in the source text.

Plain-English summary

East Manufacturing Corp. is recalling certain model year 2016 Hybrid and Steel Dump trailers manufactured between May 16, 2016, and June 2, 2016. The recall involves six affected units.

These trailers may have incorrect Federal Certification labels that overstate the gross axle weight ratings (GAWR) and/or gross vehicle weight ratings (GVWR). This non-compliance with 49 CFR Part 567 means the displayed weight limits are higher than the actual safe limits. If drivers rely on these overstated ratings, they may overload the trailer, which increases the risk of a crash.

East will notify owners and provide a new Certification Label and mounting rivets free of charge. The recall began on July 1, 2016. Owners can contact East customer service at 1-330-325-8204 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
