What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (incorrect weight rating leading to potential overloading) with a stated consequence of tire failure and increased crash risk, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Highland Ridge RV is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Highland Toy Hauler, Light, Mesa Ridge, and Roamer travel and fifth wheel trailers. These vehicles were manufactured between May 6, 2014, and August 31, 2015. The recall involves 1,912 units.
The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating calculation on the vehicle label may be incorrect. This error can allow the vehicle to be overloaded. If the vehicle is overloaded due to incorrect weight rating information, tire failure may result, which increases the risk of a crash.
Highland will notify owners and provide a corrected label free of charge. For the HT31RGR Highland Toy Hauler model, the repair also requires installing two heavier axles and five larger tires, which will also be provided free of charge. The recall began on March 22, 2016. Owners may contact Highland customer service at 1-260-768-7771 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
