Plain-English summary
Forest River, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Glaval, 2015-2016 Elkhart, and 2006-2016 Starcraft Bus and StarTrans vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with specific Ricon wheelchair lift models (S2005, S2010, S5005, S5010, S5505, and S5510). The recall covers vehicles manufactured between January 1, 2006, and April 29, 2016, with specific date ranges for the Elkhart models (October 24, 2014, to September 9, 2015).
The defect involves the platform side plate of the wheelchair lifts, which may crack. Additionally, the lifts have folding link arms with pivot holes that may be too large, allowing bearings to move out of position. If the side plates crack or the platform mounting fails due to displaced bearings, the lift platform can separate from the lift and rest against the vehicle's lift door. When the doors are opened, the platform may fall onto the lift operator, increasing the risk of injury.
Forest River will notify owners, and Ricon dealers will inspect the link arms for damage or displaced bearings and inspect the platform for cracks. Any damaged parts will be replaced free of charge. The recall began on July 7, 2016. Owners may contact Forest River's customer service at 1-800-348-7440 or Ricon customer service at 1-818-267-3000. Forest River's number for this recall is 51-05132016-0197.
