Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural defect in a vehicle component that could cause the wheelchair lift platform to fall, increasing the risk of injury to the operator, but no injuries or fatalities are reported in the source text.
Plain-English summary
Forest River, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2006-2014 Elkhart ECII transit buses manufactured between January 1, 2006, and September 26, 2014. These vehicles are equipped with specific Ricon Corporation wheelchair lifts (models S2005, S2010, S5005, S5010, S5505, and S5510) that have folding link arms with pivot holes that may be too large.
The defect allows the bearings to move out of position. If this occurs, the stowed platform may have excessive movement, leading to the failure of the platform mounting. This failure could cause the wheelchair lift platform to fall out of the vehicle when the doors are opened, increasing the risk of injury to the lift operator.
Forest River will notify owners, and Ricon dealers will inspect the link arms for damage or displaced bearings and the platform for cracks. Any damaged parts will be replaced free of charge. The recall began on December 16, 2015. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 574-264-5179 ext. 102 or Ricon Customer Service at 1-800-322-2884. Note that vehicles that received a similar recall remedy in 2014 are still affected by this recall.
