Plain-English summary
Collins Bus Corporation is recalling certain 2016 DH416 school buses built on Ford chassis and 2016 DE516 school buses built on Chevrolet chassis. The DH416 models were manufactured between February 18, 2016, and February 19, 2016, while the DE516 models were manufactured between January 18, 2016, and February 19, 2016.
The recall is due to a defect where the seats may separate from the base frame due to bolt failure. This condition causes the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety System (FMVSS) number 222, which governs school bus passenger seating and crash protection. In the event of a crash, the separation of the seat from the base frame increases the risk of injury to the seat occupant.
Collins will notify owners, and the manufacturer of the seats will replace the seats free of charge. The recall began on June 17, 2016. Owners may contact Collins customer service at 1-800-533-1850. Collins' number for this recall is 16E037. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
