Ford is recalling 2016 Fusion vehicles because the driver seat track may be improperly welded, potentially failing to restrain the driver in a crash.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (improperly welded seat track) that fails to comply with federal safety standards and increases the risk of injury in a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain model year 2016 Ford Fusion vehicles manufactured between March 10, 2016, and March 16, 2016. The recall addresses a defect in the front driver seat track assembly where the rear riser may have been improperly welded to the seat track rail.
This improper welding means the driver may not be adequately restrained during a crash, which increases the risk of injury. As a result, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) numbers 207 and 210 regarding seating systems and seat belt assembly anchorages.
Ford quarantined the affected vehicles at dealerships prior to their sale. Dealers will replace the front driver seat track rail free of charge. The recall began on May 19, 2016, and Ford's number for this recall is 16C05. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
