Ford Recalls 2017 Focus Vehicles for Rear Seat Back Weld Defect
Ford is recalling 2017 Focus vehicles because an insufficient weld on the rear left seat back may reduce its strength, increasing injury risk in a crash.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (insufficient weld on seat back) that fails to meet federal safety standards and increases the risk of injury in a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2017 Ford Focus vehicles due to a defect in the rear left side seat back frame. The frame may have an insufficient weld between the outboard pivot bracket and the pivot nut joint, which results in reduced strength for the seat back. Consequently, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 207, "Seating Systems," and 210, "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."
The reduced strength of the seat back may increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash. Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the rear second left side rear seat back as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on October 10, 2017.
