The affected vehicles were manufactured between February 15, 2011, and December 22, 2015. These vehicles are equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a monostable gear selector.

The defect involves the vehicle's inability to adequately warn the driver when the driver's door is opened while the vehicle is not in the PARK position. This allows drivers to exit the vehicle while it is still in gear. If the engine is running and the parking brake is not engaged, the vehicle may roll away, potentially striking and injuring the driver or others.

Dealers will update the vehicle software to mitigate the risk of vehicle rollaway at no charge to the owner. The recall began on June 24, 2016. Note that some previously repaired vehicles may require a second software update, for which owners will be renotified.
