Chrysler Group Recalls Vehicles Due to Alternator Failure Risk
Chrysler Group is recalling specific 2011-2014 models because the alternator may fail, causing the vehicle to stall without warning and increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (alternator failure) that can cause the vehicle to stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for significant injury risk.
Plain-English summary
Chrysler Group LLC is recalling certain model year 2011-2014 Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Challenger, and Durango, as well as 2012-2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles. These vehicles were manufactured between April 22, 2010, and January 2, 2014, and are equipped with a 3.6L engine and a 160 amp alternator.
The recall is issued because the alternator in these vehicles may suddenly fail. If the alternator fails, the vehicle may stall without warning, which increases the risk of a crash.
Dealers will replace the alternator free of charge. The recall began on February 27, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236. Chrysler's number for this recall is P60.
