Forest River Recalls 2016 Cherokee Grey Wolf Trailers for Placard Error

Forest River is recalling 2016 Cherokee Grey Wolf recreational trailers because the Federal Placard lists incorrect tire and rim sizes, which may lead to overloading and tire blowouts.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported, specifically a labeling error that could lead to vehicle overloading, tire blowouts, and crashes.

Plain-English summary

Forest River, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2016 Cherokee Grey Wolf recreational trailers manufactured between March 23, 2015, and March 9, 2016. The recall involves 224 units.

The Federal Placard on these trailers incorrectly indicates the tire and rim size as ST205/75R15/C tires with 15X5.0JJ rims. However, the trailers are actually equipped with ST205/75R14/C tires with 14X5.5JJ rims. This discrepancy causes the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."

Incorrect information on the Federal Placard may lead operators to overload the vehicle, increasing the risk of a tire blowout and the possibility of a crash. Forest River will notify owners and send them a corrected Federal Placard free of charge. The recall began on April 25, 2016. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-541-995-3447 extension 4013 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
