Forest River Cherokee Recalled for Incorrect Federal Placard Information
Forest River is recalling 2013-2014 Cherokee trailers because the Federal placard displays incorrect tire and weight information, which could lead to vehicle overload.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where the defect (incorrect weight rating) could lead to tire or axle failure and a crash, but no injuries or fatalities have been reported in the source text.
Plain-English summary
Forest River, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Cherokee recreational trailers, model T19V, manufactured between February 18, 2013, and August 14, 2013. The recall involves 19 affected vehicles.
The Federal placard on these vehicles displays incorrect information. The placard indicates ST225/75R15D tires and a 5,200 lbs. axle capacity, but the vehicles were actually built with ST205/75R15C tires and a 3,500 lbs. axle. This discrepancy results in a lower Gross Vehicle Weight Rating than stated on the placard, causing the vehicles to fail compliance with 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."
Owners may unknowingly overload the vehicle by relying on the incorrect placard information, which could result in tire or axle failure and increase the risk of a crash. Forest River will notify owners and provide a corrected placard free of charge. The recall began on October 26, 2015. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-800-453-6064 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
