Plain-English summary
Forest River, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2006-2012 Amera-Lite, 2007-2013 Cargo Mate, 2005-2016 Continental Cargo, and 2007-2012 US Cargo cargo trailers. The recall covers units manufactured between November 2, 2005, and November 11, 2015, depending on the specific model line.
The defect involves the tire pressure specification for the 5.30" x 12" Load Range C Tire, which is incorrectly listed as 50 PSI instead of the correct 80 PSI. This error results in incorrectly stated Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) and Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) on the Federal Placard, causing the vehicles to fail compliance with 49 CFR Part 567. Using the trailers to the loading specifications on the label while the tires are underinflated may result in sudden tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash.
Forest River will notify owners and provide Federal placard stickers with the correct PSI, GAWR, and GVWR free of charge. The recall began on April 8, 2016. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-266-7539 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
