Forest River Recalls 2015 Shasta Airflyte Trailers for Incorrect Certification Labels

Forest River is recalling 2015 Shasta Airflyte SAT16 and SAT19 travel trailers because their Federal Certification Labels list incorrect tire and weight ratings, which could lead to tire failure if overloaded.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (tire failure leading to crash) where injury has not yet been reported, fitting the 'High' severity criteria.

Plain-English summary

Forest River, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2015 Shasta Airflyte SAT16 and SAT19 recreational travel trailers manufactured between September 15, 2014, and October 22, 2014. The affected vehicles have a Federal Certification Label that incorrectly lists the tire size, gross axle weight rating (GAWR), gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), and cargo carrying capacity. Consequently, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."

The incorrect information on the label poses a safety risk because operators may overload the trailer based on the erroneous data. If the trailer is overloaded, the tires may fail suddenly, increasing the risk of a crash.

Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will install a corrected label free of charge. The recall began on July 9, 2015. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-825-8717 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
