Van Hool Motor Coaches Recalled for Potential Seat Belt Anchor Separation

Van Hool is recalling specific motor coaches because missing welds on seat brackets could allow the driver's seat belt anchorage to separate during a crash.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where the seat belt anchorage assembly may separate, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

Plain-English summary

Van Hool N.V. is recalling certain model year 2012 A300L, 2011 C2045, 2011-2013 T2145, 2012-2015 TD925, 2016 TDX25, and 2014-2015 TX45 motor coaches. These vehicles are equipped with certain Recaro Ergo-M Commercial Bus Driver Seats that may have J-Brackets with missing welds.

The missing welds could allow the seat belt anchorage assembly to separate from the J-Bracket. If this separation occurs, the bus driver may not be properly restrained in the event of a crash, which increases the risk of injury.

Van Hool will notify owners, and dealers for the seat manufacturer will inspect the seats to determine if welds are missing. Any J-Bracket that is missing welds will be removed and replaced free of charge. The recall began on May 25, 2016, and Van Hool's recall number is P814-SB1354.
