Van Hool Motorcoaches Recalled for Steering Knuckle Carrier Cracking

Van Hool is recalling specific motorcoaches because front steering knuckle carriers may crack, potentially causing a wheel to separate and increasing crash risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (steering knuckle carrier cracking) that can lead to wheel separation and a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Van Hool N.V. is recalling certain model year 2009-2016 motorcoaches, including the TD925, C2045, T2140, T2145, TX40, TX45, CX45, TDX25, CX35, and C3045 models. The recall affects 1,612 vehicles where the front steering knuckle carriers may crack.

Cracking of a steering knuckle carrier may result in its total failure, allowing a wheel to separate from the vehicle, which increases the risk of a crash. This recall expands previous recalls 14V-569 and 15V-331.

Dealers will replace steering knuckle carriers produced from August 2009 through March 2011. Carriers produced from April 2011 to December 2014 will be inspected by ultrasonic measurement and replaced as necessary. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on January 19, 2017. Owners may contact ABC Bus, Inc. at 1-877-427-7278 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
