Plain-English summary
Daimler Trucks North America LLC is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Freightliner 108SD, 114SD, Business Class M2, and Western Star 4900 vehicles. The affected vehicles were manufactured between September 26, 2014, and November 6, 2015, and are equipped with specific drive axles manufactured by Marmon-Herrington.
The recall addresses a defect where hex nuts on the flange yoke of the affected axles may not have been properly tightened. If these nuts are not tightened to specification, the driveshaft may disconnect from the drive axle. This failure results in a loss of propulsion and increases the risk of a crash.
Dealers will inspect the hex nuts and tighten them as necessary at no charge to the owner. The recall began on February 5, 2016. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-745-8000 or Marmon-Herrington customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is FL-699.
