KME Recalls 2016 Predator and Severe Service Vehicles for Axle Defect
KME is recalling 2016 Predator and Severe Service vehicles because improperly tightened axle hex nuts may cause the driveshaft to disconnect, increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (driveshaft disconnection) that results in a loss of propulsion and increases the risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Kovatch Mobile Equipment Corp. (KME) is recalling certain model year 2016 Predator and Severe Service vehicles manufactured between May 8, 2015, and October 1, 2015. These vehicles are equipped with specific drive axles manufactured by Marmon-Herrington that have hex nuts on the flange yoke which may not have been properly tightened.
If the hex nuts are not tightened to specification, the driveshaft may disconnect from the drive axle. This failure results in a loss of propulsion and increases the risk of a crash.
KME will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the hex nuts and tighten them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on November 20, 2015. Owners may contact KME customer service at 1-800-235-3926 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
