What this means for you

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (rear axle drive pinion fracture) that increases the risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Kovatch Mobile Equipment Corp. (KME) is recalling certain 2022 Predator, 2022 Predator SS, and 2021-2022 Predator Panther emergency vehicles. The recall addresses a defect in the rear axle drive pinion, which may fracture.
A fractured drive pinion may contact the brake drop hose, unintentionally engaging the parking brake without detection or brake light activation. This condition increases the risk of a crash.
Owners will be notified by mail, with letters mailed on January 7, 2022. Meritor will inspect and replace the drive pinion, as necessary, free of charge. Owners may contact KME customer service at 1-800-235-3928 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
