Pierce Emergency Vehicles Recalled for Driveshaft Defect
Pierce is recalling 2014-2015 emergency vehicles because a driveshaft may bend or twist, potentially causing loss of drive and road hazards.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (driveshaft) that could lead to loss of drive and increased crash risk, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Pierce Manufacturing is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Pierce Arrow XT, Dash CF, Enforcer, Quantum, and Velocity emergency vehicles. The affected vehicles were manufactured between November 3, 2014, and July 31, 2015. The recall involves a driveshaft that may bend or twist, which could cause it to disconnect from the vehicle.
If the driveshaft disconnects, the vehicle would lose drive, potentially disabling it on the roadway and preventing it from responding to emergencies. Additionally, portions of the disconnected driveshaft could become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will install a stronger driveshaft free of charge. The recall began on September 15, 2015. Owners may contact Pierce customer service at 1-888-974-3723 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
