Keystone Montana and Mountaineer Trailers Recalled for Emergency Exit Window Issues
Keystone is recalling 2013 Montana and 2014 Mountaineer trailers because rear windows are incorrectly labeled as emergency exits or blocked by ladders, potentially delaying escape.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported, specifically a delay in emergency escape that could increase injury risk, fitting the High severity criteria.
Plain-English summary
Keystone RV Company is recalling certain model year 2013 Montana and 2014 Mountaineer travel trailers. The affected Montana models include the 3100RL, 3150RL13, 3400RL, 3402RL, 3582RL, 3625RE, 3725RL, 3750FL, and 3900FB, manufactured between November 12, 2012, and January 30, 2013. The affected Mountaineer models are the 331RLT, 356TBF, and 375FLF, manufactured between August 21, 2013, and September 18, 2013.
The recall addresses issues with rear window emergency exit labeling and functionality. In all models except the Mountaineer 375FLF, the rear windows are labeled with an exit sticker, but the windows are not intended to be secondary emergency exits. In the Mountaineer 375FLF, the rear window is intended as a secondary emergency exit, but it may be blocked by the rear ladder. In an emergency, occupants might attempt to escape through these windows but be unable to do so, which could delay their escape and increase the risk of injury.
Dealers will remove the emergency exit stickers from windows not intended for emergency egress. For Mountaineer 375FLF vehicles, the window will be replaced so that the egress section is on the opposite side of the ladder installation. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on July 9, 2015. Owners may contact Keystone customer service at 1-866-425-4369 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
