Kalmar Ottawa T2 Tractors Recalled for Engine Fire Risk

Kalmar is recalling 2010-2014 Ottawa T2 tractors because a vent tube defect may allow engine oil to contact hot surfaces, increasing fire risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where a component may detach, leading to a significant hazard of fire due to engine oil contacting hot surfaces.

Plain-English summary

Kalmar Solutions, LLC is recalling certain model year 2010-2014 Ottawa T2 tractors manufactured between December 6, 2010, and July 21, 2014. These vehicles are equipped with certain Cummins Westport ISL G engines. The recall involves 22 affected units.

The defect involves excessive engine crankcase pressures that may cause the 90-degree elbow of the vent tube assembly to detach from the crankcase ventilation breather. If this occurs, engine oil may come into contact with hot surfaces, which increases the risk of a fire.

Cummins will notify owners on behalf of Kalmar. Dealers will secure the ends of the 90-degree elbow and reprogram the electronic control module (ECM) with software that adjusts engine output under misfire conditions to limit crankcase pressures. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on June 12, 2015. Owners may contact Kalmar customer service at 1-785-229-6327 or Cummins customer service at 1-800-343-7357.
