Plain-English summary
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2006 Dodge Viper, Jeep Wrangler, and Jeep Liberty vehicles manufactured between July 1, 2005, and July 31, 2006. The recall affects 43,939 vehicles.
In the affected vehicles, the springs within the clutch pedal position switch may break. This switch is designed to prevent the vehicle from starting unless the clutch pedal is pushed down. If the springs break, the vehicle may not start when the clutch is depressed, or the engine may crank and start without the clutch being pushed down. This can cause the vehicle to unexpectedly lurch, which increases the risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the clutch ignition interlock switch free of charge. The recall began on August 31, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R13. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
