Plain-English summary
Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA is recalling certain model year 2015 FJ-09, FZ-09, FZ6R, Super Tenere, Super Tenere ES, and R6 motorcycles. The affected vehicles were manufactured between September 1, 2014, and November 17, 2014. The recall covers approximately 4,900 units.
The defect involves an incorrectly manufactured shift cam segment stopper that has a sharp edge on the inside of the bend instead of a smooth radius. This sharp edge can cause the stopper to crack and possibly fracture. If the stopper fractures, the transmission may not shift properly, which increases the risk of a crash.
Yamaha will notify owners, and dealers will replace the shift shaft assembly with a new one, free of charge. The recall began on April 6, 2015. Owners may contact Yamaha customer service at 1-800-962-7926 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
