What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (insufficient wheel hardness) that increases the risk of a crash, which aligns with the rubric criteria for a Severe (4) rating.
Plain-English summary
Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A. is recalling certain model year 2014 Yamaha YZF-R6 motorcycles manufactured between August 1, 2014, and September 1, 2014. The front and rear wheels of these vehicles may have been manufactured with insufficient hardness.
If the wheels have insufficient hardness, they may loosen and/or air may leak from around the tire bead. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.
Yamaha has notified owners, and dealers will replace the front and rear wheel and tire assemblies, free of charge. The recall began on October 30, 2014. Owners may contact Yamaha customer service at 1-800-962-7926 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
