The recall addresses a defect in the abutting wedge, a component attached to the door jamb designed to make opening the door easier after a severe frontal impact. In the affected vehicles, this component may have been installed incorrectly. If a vehicle with this defect is involved in a severe frontal accident, a greater force may be necessary to open the doors, which increases the risk of injury.

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners, and their dealers will check the installation of the abutting wedge and correct it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began in March 2015.
