Mack is recalling 2014-2015 Pinnacle trucks because a smaller air reservoir may increase stopping distance, raising crash risk.

What this means for you

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect in the braking system that increases stopping distance and crash risk, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Mack Trucks, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Pinnacle (CXU) trucks manufactured between June 1, 2013, and November 28, 2014. These vehicles may be equipped with an 88-liter air reservoir for the brakes instead of the required 96-liter reservoir. The lower volume of air may result in increased distances being needed to stop the truck, causing the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 121, "Air Brake Systems."

If the truck unexpectedly requires extra distance to stop, there is an increased risk of a crash. The recall affects 85 vehicles.

Mack will notify owners, and dealers will install a larger air brake reservoir tank free of charge. The recall began on April 1, 2015. Owners may contact Mack customer service at 1-800-528-6586 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236. Mack's number for this recall is SC0389.
