Jaguar Recalls F-TYPE Vehicles Due to Front Passenger Airbag Wiring Defect

Jaguar is recalling 2014-2015 F-TYPE vehicles because a wiring error may prevent the front passenger airbag from deactivating when a child or small adult is present.

What this means for you

Plain-English summary

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 F-TYPE vehicles manufactured between August 31, 2012, and October 22, 2014. The recall affects 7,079 vehicles. The issue involves the seatbelt harness connector that links the Seatbelt Tension Sensor (STS) to the Occupant Classification Sensor Control Module (OCSCM). In affected vehicles, this connector may not have been correctly wired.

The STS and OCSCM work together to determine if the front passenger seat is occupied and by whom, which controls whether the front passenger airbag is activated. If the STS is not wired correctly, the front passenger airbag may remain active even when a child restraint is installed or a small-statured adult is seated in the front passenger position. In the event of a crash requiring airbag deployment, a child or small-statured occupant in that seat may be at an increased risk of injury.

Jaguar will notify owners, and dealers will correct the harness connector wire configuration free of charge. The recall began on December 3, 2014. Owners can contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236. Jaguar's number for this recall is J047.
