Porsche Recalls 2014-2015 Models Due to Hood Latch Defect
Porsche is recalling 2014-2015 911, Boxster, and Cayman vehicles because the front hood latch may fail, potentially opening the hood and blocking the driver's view.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (hood latch) that can cause the hood to open during operation, severely impeding visibility and increasing the risk of a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural defects and significant injury risk.
Plain-English summary
Porsche Cars North America, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Porsche 911, Boxster, and Cayman vehicles manufactured between May 7, 2014, and September 23, 2014. The recall involves 1,382 vehicles where the front hood upper lock components were not manufactured to specification.
The defective components may fail to securely latch the vehicle's hood during operation. If the hood latching mechanism fails, the hood may suddenly open while the vehicle is being driven. This would severely impede the driver's ability to see out the front windshield, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
Porsche will notify owners, and dealers will replace the lock on the front hood free of charge. The recall began on December 12, 2014. Owners may contact Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
