Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain model year 2015 Ford Mustang vehicles manufactured between August 18, 2014, and October 2, 2014. The recall involves 55 vehicles where the passenger safety belt tension sensor may misclassify the size of the front passenger seat occupant.
This defect can cause a child-sized occupant to be classified as an adult, or an adult passenger to be classified as a child. As a result, the vehicle fails to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 208, "Occupant Crash Protection." If the sensor misclassifies the front passenger, improper passenger air bag deployment may occur, increasing the risk of occupant injury in the event of a vehicle crash.
Ford has notified owners, and dealers will replace the passenger safety belt buckle free of charge. The recall began on October 28, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
