Suzuki Recalls 2014 DL650A V-Strom Motorcycles for Drive Chain Defect
Suzuki is recalling 103 model year 2014 DL650A V-Strom motorcycles because a drive chain link may not have been riveted, which could cause the chain to come off and increase crash risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (driveline) where the failure mode (chain coming off) directly increases the risk of a vehicle crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2014 DL650A V-Strom motorcycles manufactured between January 20, 2014, and January 21, 2014. The recall involves 103 vehicles. The defect is that a drive chain link may not have been riveted by the supplier during manufacturing.
If the drive chain link was not riveted, the chain may come off, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. Suzuki will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the drive chains of the affected motorcycles. For unsold motorcycles with a non-riveted link, dealers will replace the link with a drive chain joint set. For sold motorcycles with a non-riveted link, dealers will replace the drive chain and the front and rear sprockets free of charge.
The recall began on May 27, 2014. Owners may contact Suzuki at 1-800-572-1490. Suzuki's number for this recall is 2A39. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
