What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (motorcycle stalling) where injury has not yet been reported, fitting the 'High' severity criteria.
Plain-English summary
Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2008-2012 motorcycles, including the AN400, DL1000, GSX1300R, GSF1250S, GSX1300BK, GSX650F, GSX-R600, GSX-R750, VLR1800, SFV650, and VZ1500 models. The recall affects approximately 68,344 vehicles.
The recall is due to a problem with the circuit board for the regulator/rectifier power module. This defect may prevent the motorcycle from sufficiently charging the battery, which can cause the engine to stall while riding. If the engine stalls, there is an increased risk of a crash.
Suzuki will notify owners, and dealers will replace the regulator/rectifier free of charge. The recall was expected to begin on March 4, 2016. Owners may contact Suzuki customer service at 1-800-444-5077. Suzuki's number for this recall is 2A56 to 2A64. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
