Cornelius Manufacturing is recalling 2012-2014 Corn Pro Deckover Flatbed Trailers because welded boxes allowing the tail to pivot may fail, increasing accident risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where component failure could lead to the detachment of the trailer tail, increasing the risk of an accident.

Plain-English summary

Cornelius Manufacturing, Inc. is recalling certain 2012-2014 model year Corn Pro Deckover Flatbed Trailers manufactured between February 2012 and November 2013. The recall affects trailers equipped with a ten-foot hydraulic dovetail. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

In the affected trailers, the welded boxes that allow the tail to pivot may fail. If these boxes fail, only the hydraulic cylinders would remain to keep the tail from separating from the main part of the trailer. Should the cylinders also fail, the tail could detach, increasing the risk of an accident.

Cornelius will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the boxes and re-weld them if necessary, free of charge. The recall began on March 20, 2014. Customers may contact Cornelius at 1-812-636-4319.
