Jet Co Recalls 2011-2012 Aluminum Grain Trailers for Weak Top Rail

Jet Co is recalling 2011-2012 aluminum grain trailers because a weak top rail may cause buckling, increasing the risk of a crash.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (weak top rail) that may result in loss of control and a crash, which meets the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Jet Company, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 38, 40, and 42-foot Aluminum Grain Trailers. These vehicles were manufactured between January 22, 2010, and November 30, 2011, and are equipped with a 6061-T6 aluminum extrusion 2x5 top tube. The recall affects 223 units.

The top rail on the sides of the trailer may be too weak to prevent the trailer from buckling. If the trailer buckles, a loss of control may result, increasing the risk of a crash.

Jet Co will notify owners, and dealers will measure the strength of the top rail and add an aluminum reinforcement, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on May 19, 2015. Owners may contact Jet Co. customer service at 1-515-332-3117 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
