Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain model year 2013 Escape vehicles manufactured between October 5, 2011, and July 11, 2012. These vehicles are equipped with a 1.6L engine and were previously subject to safety recall NHTSA 12V-336. The current recall is necessary because, in some cases, the engine compartment fuel line may have been installed incorrectly during the repair of the prior recall.
The misinstalled fuel line could chafe and eventually leak fuel. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire. This recall covers 9,469 vehicles. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the engine compartment fuel line and replace it if necessary, free of charge. An interim notice was mailed to owners during January 2014, and the recall began on April 9, 2014. Owners can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's recall number is 13S12.
