Ford Recalls 2012-2013 Edge Vehicles for Fuel Line Leak Risk
Ford is recalling 2012-2013 Edge vehicles with 2.0L engines because a cracked fuel line pulse damper housing may cause a fuel leak and potential fire.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a fuel system defect that may result in a fire, which aligns with the rubric criterion for 'significant injury/property-damage reports' or structural vehicle defects involving fire risk.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Ford Edge vehicles manufactured between September 2, 2010, and April 25, 2013, that are equipped with 2.0L engines. The recall involves approximately 27,933 vehicles.
The defect involves the fuel line pulse damper metal housing, which may crack due to an improper manufacturing process. A cracked housing can result in fuel odor, weepage, or a continuous leak while the fuel system is pressurized. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel line with one that does not have a damper, free of charge. The safety recall began on February 25, 2014. This recall supersedes recall 12V-438, and all vehicles previously remedied under that recall need to have the current remedy applied. Owners may contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
