What this means for you

Our assessment, not the agency’s: severity 4/5 (Severe).

The hazard poses a serious risk of illness, injury, or structural failure. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a fuel system defect that may result in a fire, which aligns with the rubric criterion for 'significant injury/property-damage reports' or structural vehicle defects involving fire hazards.

Plain-English summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2012 Ford Edge vehicles manufactured between September 2, 2010, and October 31, 2011. These vehicles are equipped with 2.0L engines. The recall involves approximately 5,499 vehicles.

The fuel line pulse damper metal housing may crack due to an improper manufacturing process. This defect can cause fuel odor, weepage, or a continuous leak while the fuel system is pressurized. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will repair the vehicles free of charge. The safety recall began on September 27, 2012.
