Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Focus BEV vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights, manufactured between September 15, 2011, and May 6, 2013. The recall also includes model year 2013 Focus ST vehicles equipped with HID headlights, manufactured between February 16, 2012, and May 7, 2013.
The recall is due to a wiring incompatibility that may prevent the front side marker lamps from functioning. This defect causes the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108. Without proper illumination of the side marker lamps, the vehicle may be less visible in nighttime conditions, which increases the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will modify the headlamp assembly wiring free of charge. The recall began on August 16, 2013. Owners may contact the Ford customer relationship center at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
