Winnebago Recalls 2013-2014 Motorhomes Due to Awning Motor Defect
Winnebago is recalling specific 2013-2014 motorhomes because an awning motor defect may cause the awning to unfurl unexpectedly, increasing the risk of injury or a crash.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported, as the source states the defect increases the risk of personal injury or a vehicle crash but does not list any confirmed incidents.
Plain-English summary
Winnebago Industries, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Winnebago Access, Aspect, Sightseer, Vista, Adventurer, Forza and Itasca Impulse, Cambria, Sunova, Sunstar, and Suncruiser motorhomes. These vehicles were manufactured between February 20, 2013, and April 25, 2013. The recall involves 523 vehicles.
The defect occurs if the awning installation sequence was not completely followed, which may unknowingly damage the awning motor. A damaged motor can lead to the awning unfurling unexpectedly, either while the motorhome is at rest or while in transit. This unexpected movement increases the risk of personal injury or a vehicle crash.
Winnebago will notify owners, and Dometic staff will replace the affected motors with a design that is not subject to an out-of-sequence installation error. The recall began on July 17, 2013. Owners are instructed not to drive their vehicle until repairs can be performed. Owners may contact Winnebago at 1-800-537-1885 or Dometic at 1-888-447-0003 for more information.
