Winnebago and Itasca Motorhomes Recalled for Electrical Connector Defect
Winnebago is recalling 2010-2013 Itasca and Winnebago motorhomes because loose electrical connectors may prevent brake lights from working or cruise control from disengaging.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect affecting critical safety systems (brake lights and cruise control disengagement) that directly increases the risk of a vehicle crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Winnebago Industries is recalling certain model year 2010-2013 Itasca Meridian and Ellipse motorhomes, as well as Winnebago Journey and Tour motorhomes. These vehicles were manufactured between June 18, 2010, and November 17, 2011. The recall involves a defect in the chassis electrical system where connectors for diode jumpers may come loose, resulting in an open circuit.
Two specific circuits are affected by this defect. The first circuit is responsible for disengaging the cruise control when the brake pedal is used. The second circuit illuminates the brake lights when the brake pedal is applied. If these connectors come loose, the cruise control may fail to disengage when braking, and the brake lights may fail to illuminate. These failures increase the risk of a vehicle crash because the driver's intent is not communicated to other road users, and the vehicle may continue to accelerate or maintain speed despite braking.
Daimler Trucks North America is conducting the recall on behalf of Winnebago Industries. Dealers will inspect the diode jumpers to ensure they are fully locked in place and will correct the vehicles as needed. The recall began on December 26, 2012. Owners should contact Winnebago at 1-641-585-3535 or Daimler Trucks at 1-503-745-6910 for more information.
