Winnebago and Itasca Motorhomes Recalled for Missing Range Enclosure

Winnebago is recalling 2012-2014 motorhomes because a missing range enclosure may allow propane gas to flow without a flame, creating a fire hazard.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (missing range enclosure) that poses a risk of fire and personal injury, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Winnebago Industries is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Minnie Winnie, Aspect, Sightseer, Adventurer, Journey, and Chalet motorhomes, as well as model year 2012-2014 Itasca Spirit, Cambria, Sunova, Suncruiser, and Meridian motorhomes. The affected vehicles were manufactured between January 10, 2012, and April 5, 2013. The recall involves a potential missing range enclosure on the gas range.

A missing range enclosure may allow the gas range flame to be extinguished due to air flow. If the flame is extinguished, propane gas may continue to flow without a flame. In the presence of an ignition source, the propane may suddenly combust, resulting in a fire and/or personal injury.

Winnebago will notify owners, and dealers will install a range enclosure free of charge. The safety recall began on May 20, 2013. Owners may contact Winnebago at 1-641-585-3535 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
