Plain-English summary
Motor Coach Industries (MCI) is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 D4000, D4000ISTV, D4005, D4500, and D4505 motorcoaches. These vehicles were manufactured between May 2012 and December 2012 and are equipped with a Cummins ISX EPA 2010 engine.
The recall addresses a defect in the exhaust system where the bellows pipe may have been incorrectly assembled. This error could lead to the pipe failing during operation. If the pipe fails during a regeneration process designed to clean exhaust emissions, hot exhaust gases may not be contained, which could result in a fire.
Owners should contact MCI at 1-847-285-2000 or their local dealer. Dealers will inspect and replace the bellows pipes, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on April 29, 2013. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
