Thor Motor Coach Recalls 727 RVs for Cruise Control Defect
Thor Motor Coach is recalling 727 recreational vehicles because loose diode jumpers may prevent cruise control from disengaging or brake lights from illuminating.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect affecting critical safety systems (cruise control and brake lights) that increases the risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Thor Motor Coach is recalling certain model year 2011 through 2013 Tuscany, Astoria, Ultrasport, Montecito, and Palazzo recreational vehicles. The affected units were manufactured between May 17, 2010, and October 30, 2012, and are built on Freightliner brand XB and XC custom chassis. A total of 727 vehicles are affected by this recall.
The defect involves diode jumpers that may come loose in their connectors, resulting in an open circuit. This issue affects two specific circuits: the one that disengages the cruise control when the brake pedal is used, and the one that illuminates the brake lights when the brake pedal is used. If the cruise control fails to disengage when brakes are applied, or if brake lights do not illuminate, the risk of a vehicle crash may increase.
Daimler Trucks (DTNA) will notify owners on behalf of Thor. Freightliner dealers will inspect the diode jumpers to ensure they are fully locked in place and will correct the vehicles as needed. The recall was expected to begin on January 28, 2013. Owners can contact the DTNA Warranty Campaigns Department at (800) 547-0712 or the Customer Assistance Center at (800) FTL-HELP.
