Thor Industries Recalls Damon Motor Coaches Due to Wiper Circuit Breaker Defect
Thor Industries is recalling specific Damon and TMC motor coaches because an undersized circuit breaker may cause the windshield wipers to stop working, increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where the failure of the windshield wipers could increase the risk of a crash, but no injuries or fatalities have been reported in the source text.
Plain-English summary
Thor Industries is recalling certain model year 2010 and 2011 Damon Tuscany, Astoria, and Essence recreational vehicles, as well as model year 2011 and 2012 TMC Tuscany and Astoria recreational vehicles. These vehicles were manufactured between May 7, 2009, and August 12, 2011.
The recall addresses a defect where the circuit breaker for the windshield wiper motor is insufficient for the electrical load. The vehicles were built with a 10-amp breaker, but the system requires a 15-amp rating. If the breaker trips due to a circuit overload, the windshield wipers will stop operating. This failure may reduce the driver's field of vision, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
Thor Motor Coach will notify owners, and dealers will exchange the defective breaker with a 15-amp unit free of charge. The safety recall began on September 6, 2011. Owners may contact the TMC Warranty/Service Department at 1-877-855-2867 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
