What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a fire hazard that can occur while the vehicle is not in use, posing a significant risk of personal injury and property damage, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for significant injury/property-damage reports or structural defects.
Plain-English summary
General Motors (GM) is recalling approximately 278,174 model year 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier, SAAB 9-7x, and Isuzu Ascender vehicles. The recall also includes 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL models. These vehicles were originally sold or are currently registered in 21 specific states and the District of Columbia, including Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, and New York.
The defect involves fluid entering the driver's door module, which can cause corrosion and a short in the circuit board. This short may cause power door lock and window switches to function intermittently or stop working. More critically, the short can cause overheating that melts components, producing odor, smoke, or a fire. This fire risk exists even when the vehicle is not in use.
Owners are advised to park their vehicles outside until the remedy is completed. Parts for this recall were expected to be available in March 2013. GM, Isuzu Motors, and SAAB Cars North America will notify owners when parts are available. Owners can also contact their respective customer service centers for inquiries.
