Anderson Gooseneck Trailer Brake Actuator Recall

Anderson is recalling 2008 and 2011 gooseneck trailers with defective brake pumps that may fail, increasing crash risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (brake actuator failure) that can result in the loss of braking effort and increase the risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Anderson Manufacturing, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2008 and 2011 gooseneck trailers equipped with Dexter electric/hydraulic (E/H) brake actuator pumps. The affected models are the G84012TW and G82510TW (2011) and the G84012TC (2008).

Some of these pumps may not have been properly heat treated, which can cause premature wear of critical components and render the unit inoperable. Because the actuator provides braking power to the trailer brakes, failure can result in the loss of braking effort, increasing the risk of a crash.

Anderson will notify owners, and Dexter will replace the actuators free of charge. The safety recall began on June 25, 2012. Owners may contact Anderson Manufacturing at 1-229-336-5800 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
