Maxey Trailers, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2011 Gooseneck Tandem Dual flatbed trailers manufactured between September 2011 and December 2011. These vehicles are equipped with Dexter Axle electric/hydraulic (E/H) brake actuator pumps that may not have been properly heat treated.
The improper heat treatment can cause premature wear of critical components within the pumps, potentially rendering the unit inoperable. Since the E/H brake actuator provides braking power to the trailer brakes, failure of this component can result in the loss of braking effort by the trailer, which increases the risk of a crash.
Maxey Trailers mailed notices of the recall to owners on April 2, 2012. Owners should contact Maxey Trailers at 1-903-784-8059 or a Dexter Axle dealer to have the E/H brake actuator pumps replaced free of charge.
