Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain model year 2012 F-150 vehicles manufactured between November 6, 2011, and November 15, 2011. The recall addresses a defect in the Occupant Classification System Module (OCSM) where incorrect software was installed either during manufacturing or during a previous service repair.
Under certain driving conditions, the faulty software may cause the OCSM to misclassify the occupant in the passenger seat. This misclassification can result in the passenger-side airbag failing to deploy when it should, failing to deploy as intended, or deploying when it should not. These malfunctions increase the risk of injury to the passenger-side seat occupant.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the OCSM free of charge. The safety recall began on May 21, 2012. Owners may contact the Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
